Mel Lee - Treasure Hunter

Mel Lee, University of Hawaii at Manoa Apparel Product Design & Merchandising student, purchased this Comme des Garçons wallet at the Kaimuki Goodwill store for just $6.99.   We found the exact tartan plaid zip wallet for $190 on farfetch.com  Comme des Garçons - French for “Like Boys,” – is a Japanese fashion label based in Tokyo and in the prestigious Place Vendôme in Paris.

Almost three years ago I started going to Goodwill to find Hawaiian music on cassettes to send to a cousin in New Mexico who has a Hula Halau (who later told me he needed CDs instead). I was amazed at the number of “gently” used and brand new items I’d found in their stores. Since them, I’ve been going back at least once a week purchasing Teddy Bears between $1 – $5 depending on their size and condition. I was able to collect 50 of them by April 2010 to donate to the annual Teddy Bear Roundup for “Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii”. Again, this month I have twice the amount of bears to donate this Saturday, April 14, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Pearlridge Updown. Thank you Goodwill!!
