Glam Spotlight – Diane von Furstenberg Comes to Town

“So many of my designs are inspired by nature and beauty,” says Diane von Furstenberg, “so I am so glad to find a home for them somewhere as breathtaking as Honolulu!”  The official Grand Opening celebration of the New York City-based luxury brand DVF was held on November 22.  Diane von Furstenberg herself was there, as 500 invited guests politely awaited their chance to meet fashion royalty.  The store opened on October 6 and it is the first DVF store in Hawaii, find it at the Ala Moana Center near Neiman Marcus.

The legendary Diane von Furstenberg designed the Honolulu store with a similar aesthetic to her recent Soho location. It offers the full DVF ready-to-wear and accessory collections.  It also features her new fragrance, Diane, which should appeal to our tropical senses – with a light and charming plumeria-esque scent.

For many years, her versatile jersey wrap dress has made women of all ages and sizes look and feel confident and sexy.   A little advice on how you can afford to dress in luxury DVF looks… it’s all about the off-set.  Save money and purchase unique items at Goodwill such as accessories, shoes, handbags, etc.  Then, when it comes time to treat yourself to a DVF wrap dress from her 2012 collection, you can do it, guilt free.

In 1974 she created the wrap dress, which launched a liberating style movement for women around the globe

Diane embodies goodwill and shares her expertise with others.  She’s president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), an organization devoted to supporting and nurturing new and emerging design talent.  Von Furstenberg also continues her work with her family’s private foundation, The Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation.  The primary recipients of the Foundation’s support are organizations within the following sectors: Community Building, Education, Human Rights, Arts, Health and the Environment.

The vintage DVF blouse pictured above is the GLAM Spotlight of the week -  found at a Goodwill store in Hawaii and priced under $50.00.  I found a similar DVF blouse on the BergorfGoodman.com website for $265.00.

In the year leading up to Goodwill Goes GLAM! in 2012, the Goodwill Hunter will highlight fashion finds set aside for THE big event. Goodwill Industries of Hawaii presents the inaugural Goodwill Goes GLAM!, a showcase of talent, treasure and style — all for a great cause. When you purchase items at Goodwill, know that more than 90 percent of the retail revenue goes to programs that help people with employment barriers become self-sufficient.

Love DVF designs. They are very condusive to the life style here in Hawaii. Most are light weight, travel friendly & very flattering to wear. Love the fact that Goodwill gives back to the community and also offers great clothing, housewares, toys, home furnishings and so much more~
